The Partnership at Drugfree.org Launches New Parent Resource to Help Prevent Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Abuse

"The Partnership at Drugfree.org, in collaboration with Philadelphia-based Treatment Research Institute (TRI), has released a new tool to help parents and caregivers prevent adolescent drug and alcohol problems.
The 'Six Components of Effective Parenting,' based in scientific research, is the product of a new Parents Translational Research Center - a collaborative effort of The Partnership at Drugfree.org and TRI. The resource is comprised of 'how-to' parenting tips organized around six principles specifically designed for parents, guardians and other caregivers who need to play an active role in helping prevent substance abuse in their families. Research consistently shows that kids who learn a lot about the risks of drugs from their parents are up to 50 percent less likely to use than those who do not get that critical message at home."
